FOUR New People’s Army (NPA) rebels have surrendered to military authorities in Sultan Kudarat as they wish to live a peaceful life with their families, officials announced Thursday, November 11.

Major General Juvymax Uy, Joint Task Force (JTF)-Central commander, only identified the NPA surrenderers through their aliases as Ka Norman, Ka Roger, Ka Daniel and Ka Alpha.

Uy said the NPA surrenderers who belong to the West Daguma Front, Sub-Regional Committee Daguma, Far South Mindanao Regional Committee, surrendered Tuesday, November 9, to the troops of the 37th Infantry Battalion (IB) in Tibpuan village, Lebak, Sultan Kudarat.

“We are always willing to welcome all those who wish to come out and join the mainstream society,” said Uy, who is also the 6th Infantry Division commander.

The NPA surrenderers handed over one caliber .22 rifle, one 12-gauge pistol, one caliber .45 pistol and one rifle grenade.

They are currently undergoing custodial debriefing facilitated by the 37IB.

Major General Alfredo Rosario, Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) chief, has commended the JTF-Central troops.

“The series of surrenders of the communist terrorists and other enemies of the state manifests that we are gaining ground, thus, let us continue to exert our best efforts to win their hearts and convince them to join us in our journey towards peace and progress here in Mindanao,” Rosario said.

It can be recalled that last November 3, eight members of the Far South Mindanao Regional Committee also surrendered to the troops of the 7th Infantry Battalion in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat.

Their documents are now being processed for their enrolment to the livelihood program of the government.

Since January, a total of 108 NPA rebels have surrendered to the military Central Mindanao.

Uy encouraged the remaining NPA members to end their armed struggle peacefully. (SunStar Zamboanga)
