The activity, held on Saturday, February 11, 2023, was funded and supported by the office of Amir Mawallil, a member of the parliament in BARMM.
Mawallil said Monday, February 13, that all of the 690 recipients of the medical outreach mission were provided with eyeglasses.
Mawallil added that 234 of the 690 have been identified for cataract and pterygium surgery.
“This is our way of reaching out to our people in the island provinces, and the town of Sitangkai is located in the southernmost island in the country,” Mawallil said.
“We look forward to conducting more health-related activities there,” he added.
Employees and staff of the Ministry of Health in BARMM (MOH-BARMM) facilitated and conducted the eye screening with the help of the Sitangkai municipal health workers.
Sitangkai, which comprises of nine villages, is first class municipality in the province of Tawi-Tawi with 37,319 people as of the 2020 census on population.
Sitangkai is the southernmost town in the Philippines and is very close to Malaysia and Indonesia. (SunStar Zamboanga)
