A TOTAL of 67 applicants were hired on the spot during the “Malayang Trabajo” Job Fair organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE)-9 in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) and other government agencies.

The job fair was held Monday, June 12, 2023, at the KCC Mall de Zamboanga as part of the 125th Independence Day celebration.

Albert Gutib, Department of Labor and Employment regional director, said Tuesday, June 13, that 24 other applicants were listed as “near hires” whose appointments were pending submission of additional documentary requirements.

Gutib said that a total of 756 jobseekers have registered during the job fair.

The job positions filled up included lifeguard, merchandisers, call center agents, customer service representatives, sales agent, retort operator, scaler, cashier, counter checker, baggers, service crew, stockman, sales associates, food handlers, laborers, fish slicers and cinema projectionist.

A total of 41 local employers and three overseas recruitment agencies participated in the job fair offering 4,055 vacancies.

Meanwhile, DOLE-Zamboanga Peninsula has recorded 150 jobseekers to have been provided with assistance on Technical Education and Skills Development Authority programs and services; 42 provided with livelihood assistance; 15 provided assistance on entrepreneurship development by the Department of Trade and Industry while 206 availed of government services.

At least 687 jobseekers underwent employment counseling. (SunStar Zamboanga)
