STUNTING and malnutrition are still very much present in Davao City, so the Davao City Health Office Nutrition Division urged Davaoeños to maintain a healthy but affordable diet.

Elizabeth Banzon, City Health Office (CHO) Nutrition Division chief, said they have monitored the health conditions of the locals by visiting barangays and other rural areas.

Ginaawhag namo ang tanan parents and individuals na dili maulaw if naa may naga suroy-suroy sa inyoha, kay aron masugta nato na kung kinsa o pila ba ang kinahanglan og medical assistance o sa atoang nutrition counseling (We encourage the parents and other individuals to not be hesitant if there are officials surveying your area because, in that way, we may identify who or how many of those people need medical assistance or nutrition counseling),” Banzon said.

Based on the Nutrition Division, less than 1% of the population of Davao City had nutrition issues. 0.32% belong to Severely Affect Malnourished (SAM), 0.51% the overweight, and 0.82% for obese individuals.

She also said they managed ways to aid malnourished individuals, especially children, by encouraging them to go to barangay health centers for nutrition counseling and laboratory and also by giving them ready-to-use therapeutic food.

In coordination with the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO), Department of Education, and daycare centers, the Nutrition Division continues to promote healthy well-being for all, following its year’s theme, “Healthy Diet, Gawing Affordable for All.”
