THE City Government of Lamitan in collaboration with the provincial government of Basilan have built a P4.5 million drug rehabilitation center for the reformation of drug dependents.

The facility known as Balay Silangan Reformation Center was build at Rose Ville in Sitio Lake Cebu in Maganda village, Lamitan City.

“This city opens its doors to those drug personalities who voluntarily surrendered and wishes to reform and start a new life with decent livelihood,” Lamitan City Mayor Roderick Furigay said.

Furigay and Basilan Governor Jim Hataman-Salliman led the inauguration of the facility on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, the ceremony of which was attended by police, military and government officials as well as from civic and religious groups.

He said the facility will cater to drug pushers and plea bargainers who shall undergo three months reformation program which include one month mandatory in-house for education, health, psychosocial and physical activities and two months livelihood or employment education phase.

Salliman said the construction of the facility forms part of their program for those who wish to stop their drug vices and live a reformed life. (SunStar Zamboanga)
